Design Your Board (Dream It, Pin It, Live It! by Terri Savell Foy)

"We are taught to frame our past by displaying photographs of what we've previously done and accomplish. But the opposite is true of a vision board. You are literally framing your future before it even happens". ~Terri Savell Foy

Welcome to the Keto Mom page. My name is Stephanie, and we are diving into Chapter 4 of "Dream It, Pin It, Live It" by Terri Savell Foy. I like to do mindsets in the mornings and go through a book.

This will help you understand the power of your mind and your words, as you dive into your day. That's what the morning is about.

What do you want for next year?

𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

This book is going to help you start dreaming again, get things written down, and believe that you can do it. We're going to create vision boards together so that you're not waiting until January. We're going to start right now.

If you've been doing the activities, we already made a list of 101 things that you wanted to achieve. This was to get you brainstorming about anything that you could have, go, do, or be anything. If money and time were not an option, it could be anything that you could possibly think or dream about, write down.

You need to circle 10 things that you could focus on for next year. We also talked about S.M.A.R.T. goals, and about getting specific.

Example: "I want to lose 150 pounds by March".

That's not a S.M.A.R.T. goal. It's not specific or measurable.

Correct example: "I want to lose 50 pounds by June 1st".

That's specific and we can measure it because we've got a date written down.

So you still can brainstorm and figure out what are possibly 10 things you want to focus on. 10 things is actually a lot, some of you might only do five things or three.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀, 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.
I really want this book to last us till December, but it actually won't because we'll get this done this month.
But you don't have to move along with how I'm doing the book. You can keep going at your own pace.

After you've brainstormed and circled maybe 10 things you want to focus on, think about how you can achieve those goals.

  • I want to lose 50 pounds, what date am I going to set?

  • If I want to write a book, how often do I have to write each day?

  • If you want to go to the gym, are you going to go every single day, or five days a week?

It's just like making a date with yourself. The author then challenged us to write those 10 things for 30 days in a row. It's like writing in your journal, write those 10 things out.

Why?

Because when you review your visions and goals and have them in front of you, you're going to choose better, make better decisions, and make fewer excuses. Set your day up for success by writing your goals out, so it becomes a daily reminder.

  • I said I was gonna go to the gym every day.

  • I said I was going to pack my lunch every day.

CHAPTER 4: Design Your Board!

Once you know more specifics, the next step is to design a vision board. You're going to actually print out pictures and create your vision board.

Years ago, we did this as a family for at least 10 years, if not longer. We would get magazines and cut out homes, a car, or things that we wanted and we would put those pictures on our boards.

Now, one or two of my girls just redid their vision board. We just go for it, we find pictures on social media, the internet, or our own pictures. We print them out at Walgreens and once we got the pictures we would glue them on a board.

Super simple! So the author talked about how designing your vision board isn't supposed to be work, it's actually supposed to be fun. This is a fun activity and you can take your time, you don't have to rush. You can do it with your spouse and with your kids. You can do it with anybody, and you could encourage people in your life to do it with you.

"We are taught to frame our past by displaying photographs of what we've previously done and accomplish. But the opposite is true of a vision board. You are literally framing your future before it even happens".

We do put up trophies or pictures of the past, which is great, but how many people print out pictures of things they are working towards in the future? That's what a vision board is.

"𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗱".
Think about what would have to happen next year for you to say that. Think about things you want to accomplish, dreams you have, and places you want to go, and then start putting a picture to it.

"Designing a vision board is one of the most valuable things you will ever do, to see a realization of your dreams right before your eyes. Your vision board is a collage of images and symbols".

So there is no right or wrong way to do this, there's just creating. You can simply just put pictures, tape them up, and be done. You can write the dates by them, you can use colorful markers and make it look as pretty and glamorous as you want it to.

"Most people think in pictures or images anyway, they don't think in words. When you think about a car that you desire, you don't think of the word car (C.A.R) you think of the kind of car that you want. If you have a picture in your mind, then that's the picture you're going to print out to put on your vision board. Be creative and enjoy searching for the images, it's really fun"

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀.

I actually showed and put stories on my Instagram and Facebook. I think it was last week when I showed our girls' vision boards and how they looked. I can redo that so you can have some good visuals and I'll show you, my vision board, as well.

Right now mine is more written on the mirror in my bathroom. So I have a whole bunch of words written out and goals I want to achieve. I wrote it with a whiteboard marker on my mirror. I'm redoing all of this because I have so many new goals for next year.

"It can include pictures of anything that you want, and it could be like a vacation, luxury car, new home, maybe getting healthy, happy marriage, or more children. Whatever it is, put a picture to those words and put it on the board".

Examples: Take Your Top 10.

  • Saving $5,000 by December 31st.

  • A vacation in the Bahamas.

  • Purchasing new dining room furniture.

  • Paying off a car.

So find pictures that represented it, and put them on the board. She also talked about your S.M.A.R.T. goals. It's good to have things you can accomplish in a year. The author will challenge you to put one or two things on the board that is huge, like "Pay off my mortgage", or things that might not be accomplished in a year.

You're going to look at it and work harder. Maybe it's to climb Mount Everest or run a marathon. So whatever it is for you, and you really want your pictures and your goals to fall within a year. At least a year to 18 months at the longest, so that as you achieve them it can give you

So we're going to focus on making our list, brainstorming, narrowing it down to 10 things, and getting specific.
And after that, you'll start creating. You can do special occasion boards, theme boards, or family vision boards.

There was even one girl who wanted to go to a specific college. So she had one vision board all related to that college. She hung it in her room so that she believed she would get into that college. It could be lots of different things, like a health and fitness board, or something specific to your health.

It could include how much you're going to work out, how much water you're going to drink, being mindful of the weight that you want to lose, and maybe even some action steps. If you wanted to do that, 100% it will be great.

The vision boards are going to be fun, and I will give you some more ideas and show you my kid's vision boards too.

ACTION STEP:

"Schedule a time to commit to your vision board".

We're going to work on that because I'm guessing a lot of people still have to make a list and narrow it down to a maximum of 10 things.

So that's where I'm going to leave you. I really hope that I get to see some of your vision boards, and I'll share mine when it's done as well. I hope that you bring joy into your house and that you'd be the one that smiles. You'd be the encourager, and say things that are positive and that should be your goal for tomorrow.

𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱.

I hope if there's one thing that you've learned here on the Keto Mom page, it's the power of self-development. Grow your character to be a person that has a high EQ. A person that can respond versus react, be adaptable, and a person that understands the power of your words.

And just like what I talked about yesterday, about knowledge may be some type of power, but it's really "Applied Knowledge" that's true power.

So I pray that you have an incredible Thanksgiving and that you bring joy to other people's lives. Have a good morning and we'll talk to you soon!
