Full Episode Transcript

Hey everybody! I hope you're having a great day. My name is Stephanie, welcome to the Keto Mom page. I have a quick message for you, and it's based off some messages that I have gotten today and over the last couple days. All around the idea of "Is this diet for me?".

I keep getting messages over and over of going "Is this diet for me, I don't know if this diet is for me, I don't know if I should be doing this, I don't know if this is working".

And so I wanted to give you a really quick thought, as you were trying to figure out what works best for you, what works best for your health... So as you're tuning in, where are you tuning in from, I'm sitting in my car outside ballet class in Minnesota. I look like I have not gotten ready today because I haven't, I homeschool our four daughters, I always homeschool.

Is Keto For Everybody?

That's just a part of our life, we did not get forced into it like many of you have. So I want you to know something, this diet to me is not really a diet, but more of a lifestyle. So if you're thinking to yourself, "Oh, I don't know if this diet is for me"...

I want you to think of something really quick, when I think of a diet I think of something that you're going to do for a short period of time to reach a certain goal, like a wedding, a graduation or a vacation. But when I think of a lifestyle, I think you want to get healthy, you want to get stronger, you want to live longer, you want to feel better.

So when we first started my husband started this diet eight years ago, and I remember watching him, he was weighing his food, he was tracking every single thing he put in his mouth. He was pricking his finger to see if he was in Ketosis, he was doing all of these things. And I remember going, "That is crazy, there's no way I want to do that" and it just seemed overwhelming. Like most of you, you come to me and you're like "I don't know where to start, this is all overwhelming, I don't know what to do".

So I have a video that I did, this one's gonna be short, I did a foods list to show you how we started. If you want that, just post "Food" below, and I'll send it to you. But I also want to give you an idea, if you're looking at this lifestyle or diet, whatever you call it, and you're thinking to yourself, "I don't know if this is for me"... I want you to take a piece of paper, and on the first side of it I want you to write down what your meals currently look like. What are you eating, the snacks that you're eating, the foods that you're eating. If you haven't started or if you're kind of starting but you're not quite sure...

My list of Junk before
So for example, before I started this lifestyle, I lived off of pizza, frozen pizzas, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, mac and cheese, a lot of Debbie snacks, all of these would be on my list of the foods that I was continuously eating every day. McDonald's, Taco John's, lots of potatoes, pizza and pasta, that was on my before list.

Now what I want you to write on the other part of your list, fold your paper in half, and on the other side I want you to write these things down, "Don't mess up good for perfect", and "Choose better". If you want the foods list post "Food" below, if you would share the button it's super helpful for me and other people that can come on and get accountability.

So under breakfast I want you to write bacon eggs or sausage. Under lunch I want you to write Tacos, Low carb wrap, Deli meat and cheese, veggies and dip, salad no croutons. Under supper I want you to write get rid of the pasta, potatoes and bread. So look at the list of foods that you were eating before or currently eating, and then think of the things that you're just going to swap out. For example, we're going to have Tacos tonight, I'll use low carb taco wraps, are they the best option? They're not gluten free and they're not a perfect keto option, but they're a better option. So they're the Missions, one nothing fancy, I get them at any grocery store, it says Mission carb balance, low carb wraps. Or I'll use a lettuce wrap or I'll make a taco salad... In the meals that I'm making I always think about what is a better option.

Don't think too much

Because if you think about the two separate food lists, if you continuously eat the junk that you were eating, where is it going to get you in the future? If you're going "This isn't for me",

I don't think about what we're doing as a diet, I think about it as feeling my body the best that I can. I don't think about Keto as a diet actually, I don't even know if you consider me Keto. I drink Ketones every day, I feel incredible and I eat low carb, I don't track my food, I eat too much protein.

But if you look at the other list, and you go "I can eat bacon, eggs or sausage, I can eat a low carb wrap, I can take the buns off my burgers, I can take the croutons off my salad, I can get the Debbie snacks out of my house"... If you think about the things that you're going to switch and make better options, you won't be overwhelmed. Think about the meals you make and how do I make them better, drink more water, what are the sugary drinks you're drinking.

I want you to think of three things if you're trying to figure out if this is good for you. I want you to drink more water, with any lifestyle you're gonna wanna drink more water. I want you to cut the sugar and processed junk you're eating. So get out the Halloween candy, throw that bucket away. If you're going to be making holiday desserts, make and bring them to whoever house you're going to and don't bring any back.

Creating a Keto Lifestyle
What are some better options... if you're trying to get this perfect you're probably going to fail and you're going to get frustrated and give up.

So the absolute perfect Keto diet is for somebody honestly, who's doing it for medical reasons. Or they're doing it and they'll probably last a short period of time till they reach their goals, and then they come back to me a year later because they gained it all back. But if you can create a lifestyle, to where you're drinking more water, buns off the burgers, croutons off the salad, grab a lettuce wrap, choose a low carb wrap, eat some meat and cheese and veggies and dip, just eat better, you're going to feel much better.

Get all of the sugary stuff out of your house, you don't need it, your kids don't need it. Get out the stuff that you find you're going to eat and the stuff that people go "Oh, you have popcorn in your house", I will never grab a bag of popcorn to eat, never in my life. It is not something that I crave I don't like it. So I bought him that boomchickapop for my kids, and they'll sometimes have it for a snack. But I would never go to the cupboard and eat the popcorn, so the popcorn sitting in the cupboard does not tempt me. If there's something that tempts you, get it out of your house and then if there's something that does not, and you don't mind your kids having, you can keep that in your house.

So I just want you to think this is not a diet, but a lifestyle that's going to keep you going forever. You're going to feel great, you're not going to eat as much junk, you're not going to have that spike of sugar and carbs and then crash. Don't think about getting overwhelmed, don't think about having to clear out your cupboards all in one day. Think about I can do this one day at a time, one step at a time, one meal at a time.

And as you gradually get things out, you're going to learn and bring new things in. That's why on this page, I share different recipes, different sugar replacements, different tips or tricks for you to learn, different visuals to go "These are good low carb fruits, these ones I'll stay away from, these are good vegetables, these ones if I'm doing a low carb option are probably some I should stay away from".

Drink More water

So print out things, put it on your refrigerator. I'm a visual person so if I feel, I need to see the meals or the fruits or the vegetables, I could print out a sheet and put it on my fridge. So whatever is going to help you on your journey, print it out, paste it someplace, tell your friends to hold you accountable, tune in here if you've got questions. I think that's it, so for all of you who requested my foods list, I will send that to you. For those of you who are just starting in here brand new, post "New" below, I would love to chat. I drink ketones every day, for those of you who want to know more about the 10 day drink ketone challenge and get started and actually do what I do.

I drink ketones, this is caffeine free, but I drink this once or twice a day. It puts me in Ketosis, I've been drinking it for five years and I call it my Mom fuel.

I talk about it every day on Instagram, if you want to know more about this, just post challenge below and we're going to chat. So besides that, reach out with any questions that you have, I'm 100% here to help you. And just think to yourself as you're going along, "What is a better option, is this the best option for my meal currently, what is a better option?".

And the question I have everybody asked themselves no matter what before you eat is, "Am I hungry?". You're going to hear me say that every time, "Am I hungry?". If you are not hungry, you're going to find yourself mindlessly eating and you can overeat even good, low carb keto foods. So are you hungry, are you bored, are you emotional? Get out of the house, go for a walk, shut the kitchen lights off, go brush your teeth. You can do this, it's doesn't matter if this diet is for you, don't think about it as a diet, but think about it as you're switching out the junk, getting out the carbs and the sugar and you're just eating better food. That's it, so I'm here to help. I hope you guys have a great day.

Continue to tune in and I'll talk to you soon.
