We're diving into "The Wealth Money Can't Buy" by Robin Sharma. The book inspires readers to seek success in areas that contribute to overall well-being and happiness, not just financial success. It encourages people to cultivate forgiveness and love, while embracing life's challenges as opportunities for growth.
Don't Let Self-Care Ruin Your Self-Worth
Self-care is great, but oftentimes people use self-care to sabotage themselves to not do the hard things.
"Meditating, walking in nature, staying positive, improving your creativity, resting, taking a bath, going for a walk, sitting in your room and just breathing are things that will help you extend your lifespan".
"Successful people never use the wise need for self-care as an excuse from doing the sometimes hard work that also makes a human excellent".
Successful people understand that rest and self-care are essential, but they can't be used as an excuse to avoid challenges or difficult tasks. It’s about maintaining both the discipline to work hard and the wisdom to rest when needed.
"To be great, you absolutely need to be focused, productive, relentless and undefeatable, and passionately pursuing projects that though difficult at times, push you to reveal your highest self".
"The consistent achievement of seaminglessly impossible things introduce you to strength, talent and powers you didn't know that you have. You'll love yourself more when you do more of the things that you don't love to do".
When we push ourselves beyond our comfort zones, we uncover inner strength and abilities we didn’t realize we had. Doing the things we don’t necessarily enjoy, but that challenge us, brings growth and a sense of accomplishment that can transform how we see ourselves.
It builds self-respect and pride in who we are becoming.
STORY TIME
I like going to the gym but I don't love it. Is it hard? Yes, and there are some days that are harder than others. It's tiring, but I also have a goal to be the best version of myself when I'm 80 years old. It seems so daunting, I'm not perfect in my eating habits, but I do work on eating better.
I don't go to the gym every single day, but I work on going five days a week. I don't do things perfectly, but my goal is to be the best 80 year old or even 100 year old version of myself (only if I'm blessed with that long lifespan).
So what do I need to do today to achieve that goal? When you think of long term goals, sometimes it can be crazy and daunting. But it's in doing those hard things today that will help you achieve your future goals.
It can sometimes feel overwhelming when you think about the entire journey all at once. But breaking them down into daily, sometimes difficult tasks is what moves you forward.
Focus on what you can do today, even if it's hard, this will keep you on track and will help build momentum towards those larger, seemingly unreachable goals.
"Make good self-care a top priority".
Self-care can be working on your mindset, or it could even be getting your hair and nails done. But true self care is getting up in the morning and owning your morning.
Owning your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, helping you approach everything with purpose, discipline, and clarity. While treating yourself with things like hair and nails is also important, true self-care is rooted in how you mentally and emotionally prepare yourself to face the day ahead.
"Make good self care a top priority. Balance this with the ongoing building of a base of supreme self worth born of elite performance, extraordinary achievements and the consistent makings of outright masterpieces, yet balancing it with doing the hard things".
True self-worth comes from knowing you're consistently performing at a high level, creating things that matter, and pushing yourself through challenges.
Balancing this with the need for self-care means recognizing when to rest and recharge so that you can sustain that level of performance. It's a cycle, self-care fuels elite performance, and elite performance strengthens self-worth.
