We're diving into "The Wealth Money Can't Buy" by Robin Sharma. This book is a treasure trove of wisdom about living a life enriched by values, experiences, and purpose, rather than just chasing financial success. Sharma’s work inspires us to invest in the wealth that last, like character, wisdom, and a life full of meaning.
MICRODOSE MEDITATION
"What's the point of having everything society has told you that you should strive to own if once you have it, you feel completely empty?".
This means that external success does not guarantee internal peace. Material wealth and societal achievements may bring temporary pleasure, but they often fail to nourish the soul or provide lasting happiness.
I've known so many people in my life that have had lots of things like new homes, money, girls, cars, and watches. From the outside their lives looked great, but for some it's still a lonely and sad life.
"Are you constantly concerned about losing everything that you have? What is the point of having everything society tells you to have, and yet you still feel completely empty? What's the point?"
"The key to a great life is to be in the world and yet not attached to the world".
This encourages us to live fully, embrace our experiences, and engage with others while maintaining a healthy detachment from materialism, ego, and fleeting desires.
It’s about finding balance and enjoying what life offers without being consumed by it, allowing us to focus on purpose, relationships, and inner peace.
If you have something that somebody else needs more than you, then you cannot be holding on to it so tightly that you can't let go. You've got to be okay with letting things go.
"Don't forget that a lot of this is an illusion in many ways, and what the majority tells you is important is actually very unimportant".
"Please, don't spend the rest of your days and your life climbing a mountain only to realize that when it's too late you've climbed the wrong mountain".
It's about ensuring that your goals and pursuits reflect your true values, purpose, and what genuinely brings you fulfillment and not just societal expectations or external pressures.
I feel this! I don't want to reach the top of a mountain and feel like I was supposed to be over there on the other mountain. Life is too precious to spend on paths that lead away from what truly matters to you.
MEDITATION
STORY TIME
I actually hated that word. I've hated that word for so long, and for so many years people have been telling me to meditate. Don't tell me to meditate! But I realized that the word meditation is a universal word. I would argue with people before, and tell them that I prayed all the time. So now, you can say meditation, you can say prayer, or we can call it quiet or alone time. It all means the same for me, so I'm not fighting the word anymore.
"When you meditate regularly, it'll keep you centered and strong amidst the challenges, thinking optimistically and feeling profoundly relaxed so that you can make your clearest decisions and perform at your best each day".
"If you are in a high stress job, if you are a financial trader, a top athlete, or a state leader, you need to meditate every day".
Some people think they need to meditate, pray, or sit in a quiet space for hours. If you can do that, awesome. But if you can't, then do an hour, or thirty minutes, do fifteen, or you can even do just five minutes. Sit in a quiet spot and just be present and pray for what you're seeking. Listen to the direction that you should be going, that way you're not going up the wrong mountain.
"Something is better than nothing, and every session of meditation or prayer or quiet time counts".
STORY TIME
This is my biggest challenge. I'm a Christian or a follower of Jesus, and I pray every day. I am in constant conversation with my maker, but I don't often sit in a space for a long time and just try to listen.
Listening is my biggest challenge and I'm working on it. But there are things so many things on my mind. I constantly ask the Lord a lot of questions. We all need to take time to just be quiet and listen to the answers.
If you don't like the answer to your questions, then you might be going up the wrong mountain. If you're not listening, you're probably not even going the right direction.
So again, let's take time to listen, and be quiet. I need to start with five or ten minutes of uninterrupted sitting down and listening.
Let's all meditate more and pray more. Be intentional with it, because if we're seeking answers and we're not listening, then we're not going to get the answers. We're probably going to be running around in the same circle every single day and every single month until He finally catches your attention.
This is all a wake-up call to pause and reflect. It urges us to evaluate whether the path we're on aligns with our values, purpose, and inner guidance.
If the journey feels off or the answers we get are unsatisfying, then it might be time to reevaluate the destination and adjust the compass.
