Good morning! Welcome to the Keto Mom page. There's a couple things I've been doing this morning, our kids are at camp so I'm taking care of their dogs. What's so great is one of the leaders is doing a live video almost the entire time the kids are at camp. And so I was watching them all morning, they were trying to do an obstacle course. It was super fun to watch them, but clearly I have stuff to do. So as you're tuning in, where are you tuning in from? I will not have another late morning, I will not watch my kids at camp all day long and I will stay focused. If you're brand new to the page, we have four daughters, and four dogs. We currently live in Minnesota.
If you are brand new, I'd love for you to post a new below. Every morning we're going through a book because I believe that mindfulness is super important for your overall health.
Oftentimes, I think people can make a goal but not change the habits, the systems, and not work on their mindset to reach the goal. Sometimes you do, but what happens? I often hear some fall back into the same patterns, the same old rut, the same old habits of the things they were doing, because they did not change the system.
So we are going through "Winning the War in your Mind" by Craig Groeschel. We've already gone through a ton of other books, and we'll probably get through this book by mid month. And then I'm going to recap all of the main key points of the books that we've gone through in the last three months. All of the books have the same concept of mindfulness, creating systems and habits, and are you willing to do the hard work. Do you have the discipline to change what you want, most of you here are wanting fat loss. So we're going to move through this book, and then we're going to do some reminders. I have a really exciting book that everybody voted for, for September.
We're going to create vision boards at the end of "Winning the War in your Mind". I'm going to show you, I already started mine. Has any of you created a vision board in the past? I've done them for years, but this new book that I'm going through with a whole bunch of ladies at my church, I love how she explains it. And I'm redoing mine, mid yea so it'll be great. We'll talk about it later. For now, what I'm going to talk about is Chapter Six of "Winning the War in your Mind". Alright, so this chapter is about "Rumination and Renewal"... I'll give you an idea of what it means because I loved how he started the book off. So he says "I'm apologizing for saying something gross, but it has to be said"...
The author said "Meditating is the same word as rumination. What does rumination actually mean? It's in the Bible. Rumination is what cows do with their cud. I'm sorry to be gross, but this is what I want you to do with the powerful words and the different things that you're learning. I want you to ruminate on them, like a cow ruminates his cud"... And you might be thinking what in the world is this all about? He says "Cows get a mouthful of grass, they chew it up, they swallow it. But they throw it back up in their mouth, they chew it up some more and they swallow it again. They throw it back up again, chew it, and swallow it. So they chew it and they swallow it. They do this over and over again"... They do it to get the most nutrients out of their food as possible. It's how their bodies work.
He says "I want you to do that with what you're learning. Do that with the positive things that you're learning in your life. That is exactly what I want you to do. I want you to meditate on it and I want you to chew on it"...
You can't just watch somebody teach you something in any area of your life. You have to watch, you have to read, you have to think about it for the day. You have to meditate on it, you have to reminisce on it, you have to put it into action. Think, and then put it into action. Write it down, try again, until you get it right. So I've realized we've gone through a lot of books, we've gone through a lot of content. And sometimes you can say "This is great, I'm reading and I'm getting my mindset right"... But that's the first key, the next key is putting into action over and over again. This chapter talks about the power of repetition, over and over again. The reason you've got some bad habits is you don't have some great systems in your life, on the health side of things. You've created a repetition of bad habits, and negative thoughts. So the point is, we're going to change that.
He says "The same is true with a mental rut. You want to hear something fascinating? Increasing research shows that the way to get someone to believe a lie is to simply repeat a lie"...
So prior to this chapter, we talked about the lies that you're believing in, the neural pathways, the rut of life that you're in, the repetition of the things that you've been doing over and over again, and it's all based on a lie. In this chapter he talks about different lies that we believe in. He talks about things like, did you know that researchers say that you only use 10% of your brain? He goes "That's a lie, it's not true"... But when you repeat a lie over and over again, you will believe it's a truth even though it's still a lie.
How many things have you found yourself saying, "They say that you should do this"... And so my family and I joke around, and I'll ask them "Who is actually they and where's that proof?", "Is it actually a truth or is it a lie?"... I kind of run these things when I hear these common quotes. So these common phrases or these statistics that you can't find anywhere, when somebody says something. It just depends, sometimes it's clearly a truth, and oftentimes, it could be a lie.
But when you say a lie repeatedly enough, if you say something about yourself, if people tell you something over and over again, you will eventually believe it, as if it was a truth.
Same with how you think about yourself. You have been told a lie by yourself and by others, and we need to change the neural pathways so that you can believe that you are worthy. That you can get healthy, that you are strong and beautiful, and that you are right. But we need to fill in the root, fill in the rut and get those lies out. This is how you will replace the old rut with a new pathway, the answer is "Repetition of a Truth". He says "There's a word called Automaticity. It is the ability to do things without thinking about what you were doing. One repetition allows an action to become unconscious, it becomes automatic"... Half the things that we do throughout our day are automatic. You get in the shower, you don't have to tell yourself how to do it. You just automatically wash your hair, wash your body, do all the things you need to do and you get out, it's automatic.
So he says "You automatically do the things good or bad. And now we have to change some of those things then you have to become aware of what you're doing and how can we change that?
I love this old quote. "Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Your thoughts become the things that you say. Watch your words they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny"...
And so if you want change, we have to become aware of the lie and we've got to put new truths in your brain. Whether you're looking at this Biblically or Scientifically, both say the same thing. As Zig Ziglar said, "Repetition is the mother of learning and the father of action, which means it is the architect of your accomplishments"...
You learn something, you put it into action. So he goes we have to rewire your brain and you're going to have to keep moving forward. In the last chapter, he talked about "Writing it, thinking it confessing it". He talks about having declarations, whether you believe it or not like "I am healthy and I am strong"...
What if you got up in the morning, you looked in the mirror, and you told yourself "I am healthy, I am strong, I make good choices, I am worthy and I am beautiful"... It might seem awkward at first, but eventually you're going to create a neural pathway in your mind. And when you believe positive things about yourself, you're going to choose better. Because if you believe that you're not worth it, then it's always going to be that way. "I feel like garbage, I'm always going to feel like garbage"... You're going to go through the drive thru, sit down and you are going to eat out of emotion. But when you love yourself, and you believe that you're worthy, then repetition will kick in. You'll start making better choices, you're going to feel better about yourself. When you're listening to better things and you're saying better things you're going to choose better. Alright, so I'm going to show you the next book that we're going to do in September. We're going to go through "Dream it, Pin it, Live it" by Terri Savelle Foy. This is also going to help us with the things that you say about yourself.
This is going to talk to you about declaration, which is part of homeschooling my girls. We homeschool, we've always homeschooled. And so what I'm working on while the girls are at camp is I would love for them to have their own declaration. There are things I need for them to declare over themselves every morning, when we homeschool. We're going to start off with our Bible, we're going to start off with memorizing the word. And my girls are going to have their own declarations, one of them is going to be declaring that she is a strong reader and that she can spell. That she is super great at reading and there's things that we are going to do, and we will do it every day, because I understand the power of the words. And I understand that my children need to be uplifted, and they need to speak that over themselves. So I'm going to do all of this with my girls. I would challenge you if you have kids, do this with your kids.
Oftentimes, these kids go to school, they don't think they're good enough. Whether it's sports, or even their looks. If you can help your kids understand the power of their mind right now, they don't have to deal with it. Or they don't have to go through challenges like you are today as an adult, because they are working on it today.
Do it with your kids and do it with your spouse. So we're going to go through "Dream it, Pin it, Live it" by Terri Savelle Foy, and we're going to create a vision boards. This is something that I usually do in January, but you know what? I don't know where my vision board. My heart was not in it this year. I don't remember what I put on it. And whatever I did put on it, I don't think I actually thought about it, so I'm redoing it. The book is going to walk you through this. We're going to start in September. The vision board is going to be ten to twelve things you want to accomplish in the next twelve to eighteen months. Now there's long term vision boards, and there's lots of things that we're going to talk about. Terri Savelle Foy walks you through the entire process. I know Amazon has then book, I'll find a link so that we can just order it directly from her. So there's the book and there's also a workbook.
Okay, I will be giving you adequate time to grab it, so you can do it with me. It's great, I'm going through right now. It's actually only a six week course and then we make our vision board. So if you want to do it, we're going to do it in September, and I'm excited. The chapters are pretty short, so we can even make it take longer than six weeks so you're not rushed. Alright, I'm going to let you go, but continue to tune into the page for recipes and tips and tricks. Reach out to me if you've got specific questions. I am here to help. Otherwise, I appreciate you all.
You are worthy, you are amazing, you have everything that it takes to go after the things that you want. And you have everything that it takes to defeat and conquer. Get out of those bad habits and put in new ones. I'm here to help you with that.
I hope you have a great day and we'll talk to you soon.
